This frame is an sign language alphabet that I created as part of a project I was concepting called: Hands on a Hybrid. Here's the logo I designed for it:

Instead of lobbying for a hybrid vehicle, I chose to purchase a 1987 Mercedes 300TD station wagon and convert it to run on vegetable oil...and thus fulfill my environmental anxiety driving around in Los Angeles...Because the carbon footprint for operating was CO2 neutral! (plus it smelled like japanese tempora or french fries depending on the day, yummy.)

Pregnant Life Drawing

It's been over 2...well let's just say too long, since I did some life drawing. I have to dust off the cobwebs and get back into "high focus" form. But all in all, it is like meditation and sprinting at once, when I get into it; remembering that is like the caveman sparking his flint. I imagine it never got old.
I'm excited to have found a few spots in Copenhagen where I can let the pregnant inspiration that I've been incubating for some time begin to breath. 2010 is a whole new decade. And like Harvey Pekar said in "American Splendor" (I just saw the flick): "Tomorrows a new deal, right?"
So whatever I want out of the next 24 hours, the next 7 days, or the next 12 months, I can reach for it. I look forward to seeing what I find at the end of my hand, and what it might teach me about myself and how I relate to the world. Hopefully someone else will be effected by it in one way or another.

Last weeks session consisted mainly of poses lasting between 2-5 minutes each. I probably should edit down the pics, but really this blog has always been about keeping a record for myself, not the hordes of readers that follow it.

These were designed with the dark bg color at first. Once I put a white bg under them, the shading won't work with three levels of light and shadow, or at least i'll want to tweak it on the white bg to make the hilights read better.

Alrighty, back to it. With a push from your favorite Uncle and mine I am going to try to push out 7 posts in 7 days. Not that its any great feat you might think, but for me it might be, because I've been slack on the updates since earlier this past summer.
I was inspired recently by the artwork done by school kids that is displayed in L.A. metro station at Hollywood and Vine, of hot rods and street rods. So here's a freeballin' sketch that I'll try to bring to a more pretty looking final this week... if not sooner.

Here's just a couple before zzzzz hands . I really like the feel of micron straight on the paper. Sometimes pencil makes me work sloppy. I like having to decide first time where the line will go as I put it down, without the ability to ctrl+z or erase. I'm working on an idea that might incorporate drawing 30 000 hands. Yeah, I'm thinking thats an insane number, but I work in animation so you know I'm patient already.

.Who knows what was going on when I drew this...other than marker madness and a micron mashin'. Half Man Half Warhog...it kind of reminds me of those Kool Keith rantings about Half Man Half Shark. Dig the insects crawling around on him. I've just started a new job, in a new city, in a new time zone, after 4 months in a different hemisphere...so I think its worth pushing my hands out of old ways (especially nowadays, if not always).

Here's a few sketches from an Easter trip to Tanzania's Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti. One is of the view of our lodge's "backyard" where the meanest animals in Africa, Buffalo roam free. Maasai warriors would walk us back and forth from our rooms to the eat spot with long spears for protection. We came to learn that the spears really wouldn't do anything to such tuff animals, but at least it made us feel safe...at first.
And then there's some masks and wood sculpture that caught my attention.
